Artefact 1;
On reflection, this was the most important Artefact I have
done so far. Although I had to make some reasonable assumptions such as the
decision between responsive web design and native apps were on the same level
as I was talking in the context of an information only site and not e-commerce.
This was to narrow down the broadness of my research question. I received some
really useful information on topics such as the fold, image use on mobile
devices and opinions on the use of Fitts law in mobile design. The Artefact was
used to get a base to test on, to find out the most important elements of
mobile web design and find out how these elements have changed the way we have
gone from traditional desktop design to designing and developing solutions for
mobile devices. The results from the Artefact have given me the grounding to
continue onto my second Artefact where I will produce a form of paper
prototyping where I will test responsive design with users to find out their
perception of placing elements on mobile devices for users. This will give me a
good comparison to find out whether I should be concentrating on user or practitioner
for the following 3 artefacts I will be testing. By producing an open ended
questionnaire for practitioners I allowed the opinions of the designer to come
through, and not just let the results reflect on design trends or user
requirements.
