My Design Process

Full design process for most recent project; Final Major Project for Btec ND, Design and Graphics. Project was created using a skeleton brief, I chose to create a skateboard deck design company under the name "Woods"
There were a variety of processes i had to under go to create this company, however instead of researching into what customers wanted to see, i looked at areas of design to do with boards that were not seen, this mainly being typography used as the main feature.
To start with initial ideas i started brainstorming phrases that came from different songs/sayings that could be used as part of a typographic image. These were created through mini sketches that also included experimenting with positioning.;

 

After experimenting with positioning and small phrases i looked further into the typography i was going to use, and more into the style of design i wanted to go for. This included mini sketches of characters that could be used in relation to my design (i later decided against this to purely focus on the typography side of my boards)

I then went on to make these into different peices and experimented heavily with colour ways of each design;

I experiemented with these different peices by using different colourways as part of my design process, i created many of these boards to get a feel for the type of design i could use and the main colours i could get to run through the final designs.
The main research i did on this was just asking people from different background their opinions on certain colour ways. I did this for each design i made creating a wide base of variety to then choose from for my final designs.
My final designs were based on creating this typography then using different techniques for each board to create something different from typographic design.
